About
The Department of Botany, established in 2019. More than 90% of the students belong to ST Category. Palghar District is a Tribal District and the lifestyle of the people in this area related with the Nature. The surrounding area of campus, is rich in diversity of plants, animals and bio-culture. There has been keen demand for opening the Life-Science Department at Girivasi seva mandal’s Murlidhar Nanaji Mohite Guruji College of Arts,Commerce and Science College, Khodala-jogalwadi and therefore in 2019 the Life-Science section with Department of Botany, and Department of Zoology was started. Since then, Department of Botany offers UG program for B.Sc. students. Department of Botany focuses on motivating young talents and society to understand diversified knowledge of plant sciences. Our department also contributes to maintain plant diversity in the college campus.

Aims & Objective
Aim
- The aim of this course is to ensure that you can achieve an up‐to‐date level of understanding of plant science.
Objectives
- Our objective is to provide training in scientific and transferable skills through modular lecture courses, research projects, written work, seminars and supervisions.
- To produce that can quality students fulfil the feature needs.
Future Plans
- To identify the floral diversity of Khodala - jogalwadi and nearby rural areas.
- To develop botanical garden
- To develop digital herbarium.
- To create awareness among the students and society about conservation of biodiversity and conservation of herbal wealth.
Career Options
- After graduation, Botany students can appear for several competitive exams conducted by UPSC and MPSC such as Indian Forest Services, Indian Administrative Services.
- Student can apply for higher studies like M.Sc. (Botany), M.Sc. (Biotechnology), M.Sc. (Genetics). Students who prefer outdoor or field work have opportunities such as ecologist, conservationist, forester and taxonomist.
- Students having interest in Classical Botany can find job opportunities as Phycologist, Mycologist, Palaeobotanist and also as Plant taxonomist. Students having interest in Botany and Chemistry both can apply for Plant-Physiology, Plant Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and Molecular Biology.
- After graduation, Botany student can opt for several courses such as, ornamental horticulture, terrace gardening, plant breeding, plant pathology, and landscape design.
- Student can also look for several industrial job opportunities in pharmaceutical companies, biological supply house, seed companies, and agriculture marketing companies.
- One can choose noble profession of teaching Biology in Schools after applying for B.Ed. course.
- Some other job profile for botany students are Researcher, Scientific writers, Research-paper editor, Botanical illustrator, Environmental consultant, Park ranger, Nursery or Green-house manager, and Farming consultant.
